About this image: In the blazing summer heat we decided the best location for a few quick candid portraiture images would be under some cool shade as I photographed the beautiful couple just using nothing but natural day light and some provided shadow. I asked them to gently lean into each others faces and forget the crowd of family and friends around them. This was simply a quick intimate moment in the midst of one of the busiest days of their lives; their wedding. The humor to this is that we place the Bride and Groom and had them under a tree… K… I… S… S… I… N… G.

My Polaroid Camera
So what’s the big deal? It’s a plastic instant camera. Sure… But they don’t make these anymore. It seems all over eBay you can get these for the price of a beginner’s DSLR. Unless you want to get a used one. Or hopefully your Mom or Granddaddy might have one collecting dust in the attic. None the less they are a rarity aka just not common any more. Thanks to the iPhone and the wonderful world of apps they have emulators that can produce images just like these instant film cameras like the app ShakeItPhoto. (NOTE: This photo is a “ShakeItPhoto” of the real thing.) So most can make digital images of something that looks non.digital. Interesting on how the tables have turned. But in the end I’d rather read a book and flip real paper pages then on the screen of my iPad and sometimes I want to touch real film and get real prints from a camera that has no digital censers. There is just something special about being able to enjoy they way things were once in a while.

The Test Shoot
Photographers and models alike must stay sharp and current in the developmental process of their portfolio’s. The Test Shoot allows both parties to stay sharp and develop the images needed to get the work that each party member desires. These types of shoots can also be used as a means to develop specific types of books (portfolio’s) so that it may be presented to specific prospect employers, companies, agencies, etc. Test shoots almost always cuts out the middle man (the client) and allows the photographer and model total creative control and freedom for a photo shoot theme/idea. It is imperative that the right photographer finds the right models and vice versa to create the right type of images.
Check out this definition of THE TEST SHOOT from MODELING WISDOM Modeling Blog: Test shoots take place when a professional photographer would “test” out new models at an agencies request, to see if the model had what it takes to make it in the industry. These photo shoots were not free. But as the years go on, a test shoot has become more of a photo shoot where money is not the incentive, but rather photos and or experience is the mutual outcome.

ABOUT THE PHOTO: Model Lucile from France came to the USA to set up a career in modeling and dance. Used in a soft box about 5 ft away from her to her right simple using one light. This image was shot with a Nikon D90 w Calumet Genesis 200 lights and the only adjustments done via post process in this image is slight color correction in Lightroom4 and Typography in Photoshop CS5.

Cover Art for indie music artist CONQUEST for upcoming album RADICAL DEPARTURE.
This project began about over a year ago as I meet up w an old friend from my college days. His name is Jason Roberts aka Conquest. A local NYC hip hop artist who rhymes about life struggles, social issues and politics with a twist, his deeply rooted Christian faith. I was able to film and direct my first music video: RAGE (Revenge Against God’s Enemies) for Conquest and during the time span of the year I was able to work on other music videos for Conquest as well as cover art for mix tapes and singles.
Without sounding religious nor conforming to traditional church language but rather using the everyday language of the street with an educated twist as his wordplay uses complex vocabulary Conquest uniquely conveys his message in each song. Sometimes he leaves the listener contemplating about the phrases spoken artistically, this is definitely not a simple mans music, but rather a gift for those who like to be challenged in their music.
About this image: In this sketched image I wanted to convey a concept, I understood that sometimes to capture a unique message it would have to be visually simple. So with a sharpie marker in my hand I created the figure that is walking into the direction of the light. It is a symbolic image portraying that sometimes walking a right path and making an exit to “societies norm” can a lonely path, but non the less, it is a RADICAL DEPARTURE.

Lilac Love and Lace (by Amy Marietta)I hope everyone is staying safe during Hurricane Sandy! It’s crazy out there but I think I’m going crazy being stuck inside all day. Bleh. I need some good movie recommendations and Chinese takeout but I would feel way too guilty making someone bike in this rain. Serious issues over here, when are they going to invent a teleporting machine? Shot this in one of my favorite locations, Central Park, with Edgar Mattey. Sometimes I wish I lived uptown just for the park because it’s probably the cleanest air in the city. Great place to have picnics, run, paint and bring all of your “touristy” friends. You know the drill. I really like these lilac shorts, such a soft and dainty color. Definitely more of a Spring color, but hey it’s not Fall everywhere right? I’m really into shorts right now (the Cali girl in me) but of course during the Fall in NYC you must pair them with tights but who doesn’t love tights? I do 100%. I’ve worn this top quite a bit also, makes the perfect day-to-night top because I can wear it to work and out to dinner and drinks. The best types of pieces to have in your wardrobe because you never know what kind of last minute encounters you will have. Stay dry my friends in NYC. xoxo Viviere Bella Live beautifully

I took this photo with my Plastic Holga Lens for my Nikon D90 Camera. Love the result. It’s really gives me the feel of a film camera on my digital. I also used my Vivitar 285hv flash which I recently repaired. It works better then before. This was a test shoot of model Roxy who is represented by PF Models. Taken earlier this evening just a few hours ago in Dumbo Brooklyn. (One Of My Favorite Spots)

Maid Of Honor
About this Photo: I was simply “a fly on the wall” in order to capture pure authentic moments. As I shoot away there was a moment when the maid of honor was tending to the bride to be as she assisted in the tying of her beautiful dress. I knew there was a special intimacy between these two friends as the rest of the family and friends went about their own ways in panic and preparations… There was only the maid of honor… Who’s focus was her friend.

What Might Photography Post Production Consist Of?
Post production is simply that time after the photograph is taken in order that work on the image and development of artistic creation can come to pass. Most work is done on digital images but can be worked on film images as well. But the question of the day is what might post production consist of? Here is a simple list that will give you an idea of what a design photographer may have to do (or more like what I usually do) in the midst of post production. This may not hold true for all photographers as each photographer varies in work style.
1. Images are ran and organized in Adobe Lightroom 4. I like to keep the images well ordered by first image to last. I also have custom made presets which I have developed that give my photos that “Oh, it’s a MatteyPhoto” feel. But from time to time I will stray away from that as I do not desire to be cookie cutter in developing stylized images. I will study the images for any skin blemishes, double check exposure and white balance as well examine the composition to see if it is what I have desired.
2. For further effects or alterations to the image if desired or needed I will then export the image over to Photoshop CS5 (I am not yet using CS6). I may then add colored effects, give the images grain (which can also be done in LR4) and add flare or texture. By this point I am happy. I usually like to keep my stylistics simple, but not always, just most of the time.
3. Typography is usually a factor in my images… I like to add a name, title or quote that best fits the image. (In my mind coming from a graphics design background the image is not complete without typography.) I will review the images and take note. If I am happy with the image then I am done, but for the most part I am never happy and may begin the process again.
For every image worked on it may take anywhere from 15 minutes or up to 3 hours to do post work on it. Depending the images and intensity of work put into the image. In the end it is not just a photograph, but a work of art.
About The Image Above: 16 yr old Koryna who desires a career as a print model was my subject. I worked using paint brushes in Photoshop for the bright colors and added flare after fading out the image and overexposing it in black and white adding some grain for texture.

PHOTO • GRAPHICS • DESIGN
My love is for photography, but truth be said, it was not my first love. I majored in advertising arts and computer graphics in the mid 90’s which was my passion in my early college years. I did flyers for local concerts, schools, churches and community events. Countless hours with Photoshop and Illustrator were not just work and study but also a pastime and hobby as well. In my later years I combined that love with photography which was great for designing promo images and CD covers for various indie music artist. My desire is to expand this area broadening the knowledge of typography design and graphics into more of my images. So stay posted for more stylized photography with specialized graphics and typography designs.
